Another favorite childhood memory I have from when I was a child comes when I was in 4th grade. The teacher let us have kind of a slumber party one day at school. Everyone got to bring their sleeping bags to school one Friday (I want to say this was towards the end of the year so it might have been kind of like an “end of the school year” party). We got to lay around on/in out sleeping bags and listen to the teacher read to us. At some point I think we were allowed to read on our own (with whatever books we had with us). There were other things we got to do during out little “party” but I can’t remember what we did. I just remember getting to lay around and read or listen to the teacher read to us.
Do you have any favorite childhood memories related to reading or literature?
What a sweet memory. One of mine is reading Oliver Twist with my mom – we would take turns reading a page aloud.
Grade 4 was when I picked up Harry Potter, and that’s what got me into reading – before that, I actually hated it!

I didn’t get into the Harry Potter series until right after the 5th book came out. Originally, I thought I wasn’t going to like it because it was meant for kids. But a dear friend of mine suggested it (plus, I’ve seen several family members & friends reading it by this point) so I decided to give it a try. My husband bought me the first 3 books in the series for my birthday one year and I fell in love with it. I immediately ran out and bought the 4th and 5th books myself. I had to wait for the 6th and 7th books and it killed me because I had to know how things were going to end.
