What are some lessons you’ve learned from reading?
I think reading takes patience, first of all. A tv show can last from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the show. A movie can last from an hour and a half to nearly three hours depending on the movie. My husband prefers watching a movie as opposed to reading a book. He says he can give up a couple of hours to watch a movie a lot easier than reading a book (reading isn’t really his forte. I think that’s part of the reason why I find reading so relaxing……you have to slow down to read a book (much more than you do to watch a movie or tv show).
I think reading a book forces you to see things through another perspective also. If the author is really good, you see things through the eyes of the character(s) that are in that book. I’ve heard that reading can help you be more empathic….if that’s true then this may be part of it. Because you’re looking through the eyes of someone else and getting to know that character, you can be more in tune with others.
What do you guys think? What are some lessons you’ve learned from reading?
I agree with your list. I think I’d add reading helped me realise I can enjoy my own company – it’s probably the first solo activity I learned to appreciate, as a child.

I agree with your statement as well. I’ve come to learn that I enjoy sitting at home with a book in my lap more than I enjoy going out (especially since I deal with a steady stream of people at work all day).

Ha. I don’t even work with people but I still prefer staying home > going out.

Reading is pretty a better choice for me than watching a movie. Reading is something that I can do without having to stress myself so much. This is key to how I go about my daily activities too. With reading, I have come to have this mindset that a lot can be learnt from reading books.

I love the way you think about this. I think you can learn a lot from reading, even if you aren’t trying to learn anything on purpose.
