Do you think libraries will ever cease to exist at some point? What makes you think so? I think libraries will evolve with the times but I don’t they will ever cease to exist completely. There’s so much you can do at a library besides just check out a book. There is a wealth of information that you can find at your local library. I know that a lot of people are thinking, “Can’t I just find that stuff on the internet?” I don’t think you always can. There’s stuff you can find at the library that may pertain to history in your area that you may not always be able to find on the internet. Plus, at your local library, there is a librarian or other staff that may be able to help you with something if you get stuck. As far as evolving, I know some libraries are starting to let you “borrow” e-books now in addition to borrowing the physical books. The libraries are starting to realize, e-readers and tablets are becoming a thing these days so they are trying to keep up with the times.

I don’t see libraries going anywhere. Libraries have existed for thousands of years and although we’re progressing with technology and other things, I really don’t think libraries will cease to exist. Libraries are not only for book readers. Libraries hold town archives, state archives, national archives, etc. If you’re looking to find out about your genealogy, a library is a good start. We’ll always find use for a library. Thank goodness.

Yeah, there are lots of things you can do at your local library. I like to just go there for reading. If I’m curious about a book that I want to read but I don’t have the money to pay for it, I’ll just go to the library to check it out. Plus, I’m not out the money for the book if I don’t like it.

I think the way we’ve thought of libraries in the past has to change in order for them to remain relevant. Books can be downloaded now but there’s a huge class of people who prefer to hold an actual book in their hands instead of an electronic device. But having the electronic device works better for some people such as when I was a substitute teacher I would read on my Kindle and when I finished a book I could just easily go to the next book.
A lot of libraries have computers now for users and I think the more they delve into other areas the more people will continue to use the building. Having separate rooms for discussions and meetings has been around for decades and I think they’re still important. There used to be movies to check out as well as music and language learning software and I’m not even sure if those are still a thing?
One thing I really wish the libraries would do is get rid of the library card and have it somehow be attached to your driver’s license. When I moved to my house 6 years ago I never bothered to sign up for a new library card so I haven’t even been to the library yet! eek.

I agree with you about the library card thing. You know people are going to update their driver’s license because they have to, at least when it expires. People don’t think of their library card until they need to use the library for something.
