What books where most formative to you as a child?

This book tells a story about a bond between man and man’s best friend. I think this resonated with me so much because I am such an animal lover, especially when it comes to dogs.

I read this book in 4th grade for a book report. I even went to school dressed up as Fern and brought a little stuffed pig with me to be my Wilbur. The teacher allowed us to dress up as one of the characters from the book for “extra points” on the book report.
Other books from my childhood (in no particular order)……..
- Aunt Morbella and the Screaming Skills by Joan Carris
- Romaona Quimby age 8 by Beverly Cleary
- The House of Dies Drear by Virginia Hamilton
It took me a bit to recall what books I loved to read as a child. I agree with The Ramona Books. I can’t believe the first book was from 1955! They were wonderful stories written from a child’s viewpoint. Who couldn’t relate?
Another series I loved was the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories by Carolyn Keene. I used to have most of the books when I was a teenager. I had lent them to my sister & she had lost them. I’ve found them at Antique Shops & am in the process of purchasing them again to have. While the newer generation may not appreciate these older books, there’s something to be said about timeless quality.

I’ve heard of the Nancy Drew books but I don’t recall reading any of them when I was younger. You brought up a good idea regarding going to an antique shop and purchasing older books. I may see if I can do that with some of the books I use to read when I was a kid.
