If you are someone who isn’t a reader but are considering getting into reading, here are some tips on where to start….

- Library = The library is probably the best place to start. You can find a lot of books to read and the librarian can probably help you out if you need a friendly nudge in the right direction. Great thing is it’s free to check out books there!
- Book store = Your local book store may be another place you can go. While this option may cost you a little money (how much depends on how much you’re willing to spend), you can still run into some like minded individuals. More than likely it’ll be the people who work there that can give you some ideas.
- Online = There will be some places online that you can find some books to read, especially if you can’t find what you’re looking for somewhere else. The book store you went to may have a website and let you shop online. There’s also Amazon as well. This is also a great way to shop if you are in the midst of a lockdown….you can order what you want and just have it sent to your location.
- Friends = If you have any friends that are avid readers, they may know some other sources to go to, especially if you’re looking for something locally. They might also have some books they may let you borrow (if you ask politely first).
- Bonus Idea = If you are a blogger (like myself), you maybe able to get review copies of books by contacting the publisher. Try going through Amazon and finding the publishing company. You’ll more than likely be able to find a website for that company online somewhere. You can contact that company through their website and ask for review copies.
Final Thoughts: There’s several different avenues you can go with this depending on your situation. Even if the above suggestions don’t turn up any ideas, at the very least, any one of those people can probably make some suggestions on what you can read. That will depend on your tastes. Think of what movies and/or tv shows you normally like to watch……that can usually give you an idea of what books you can get into. You may want to have this in mind when approaching these people and asking for suggestions.
Now, on the bonus idea I mentioned….that’s a great way to get some extra books (and probably for free), however, I would only ask for books that you are actually interested in and plan on reading. The publishers are more than likely sending these out with the hope that you are going to mention their book on your blog or social media once you’re done reading it. So make sure that you’re willing to go through that process before requesting review copies from publishers.
