What are some things you like or dislike about reading? Do you agree with some of the things I’ve written below? Do you have some things that you think I’ve left out?
Things I like about reading…..
- Relaxing… I find reading to be relaxing. It allows me to get get my mind off of whatever has happened over the course of the day. It’s like a little vacation for your brain.
- Never bored… I can spend hours reading, especially if the book is well written. I can also spend hours in the local bookstore or library looking for new books to read.
- Portable… I can take my reading with me when I travel thanks to having a Kindle Fire. I can even take multiple books with me to keep myself entertained.
Things I dislike about reading……
- Die… I hate it when my favorite characters die during the book/series. You become so invested in the characters and it can be devastating when they are gone.
- Done… I hate it when a book or series is over. It always feels like they are over too soon.
- Too long… When an author is writing a series, I hate it when I have to wait in between books, especially if that wait is a long time. I’ll admit I can become impatient when I’m waiting for that next book to come out, especially if the series is really good.
What I like about reading:
It’s rewarding. I am a bit of an empath so I tend to be swept away quite easily by the characters’ emotions. If they cry, I tend to feel the pain. On the flipside, the reward comes from the ending, most DO find a happily ever after or at least a closure.
It transports you to another time, another place, while in the comfort of your own home. It’s a way to “see” new sites by proxy.
What I dislike about reading:
When I’ve finished a book & wasn’t at all satisfied with the outcome. Thinking the author spent too much time on some areas & certainly not enough explaining other areas.
Done. I agree with this one. It can take me a good month of writing down notes, revisiting what I read, just thinking about it & mulling over what happened.
Bored. I put this in the Dislike category because some books are quite boring to read. The author didn’t take the time to have the audience “feel” what’s going on. There’s no “visual”. You know how some books you feel like you are actually there? I’ve read a few & I couldn’t figure out what they were trying to describe. Was very disappointing!

I can relate to the points you brought up. I can lose interest in a book if the author is dragging on and on about something or the book becomes too bogged down with descriptions and facts. Thank you for sharing, ZandraJoi.
